Golden, Sparkling, Vinyl Screen Printed Bear of Dreams.

So Iv'e just finished screen printing this. I’m posting the progress of the screen printing technique I used. I usually screen print with the traditional method, exposing screens etc, but this time I used a vinyl cutter to make a stencil instead of exposing the image onto the screen. The reason I did this was mainly to test the level of detail I could achieve with the vinyl cutter, and if I simply could screen print that way.

I’m really pleased with the end result; I think the paper and the bear complement each other completely.
I wanted to give the character a delicate look due to the material I was using, so I hope this comes across and please let me know what you think.

First I sketched the image and scanned it in at 600dpi gray scale. I find this is better for pencil sketches. It didn't really matter for this but I thought I would mention it.

Next  I drew it up using the pen tool in adobe illustrator. I had to do this because the vinyl cutter recognise paths made in illustrator.

The vinyl cutter then cuts out the image.

Parts of this image where extremely intricate such as the fur of the bear. Naturally these parts I had to take care with when cutting out so as not to tear the vinyl.

I used a knife to remove the unwanted vinyl, leaving a negative of the line work that I would pull the ink through.

To remove the whole vinyl sticker in one go I used a sheet of masking tape. I stuck this lightly onto the front of the vinyl.

I then stuck the vinyl onto the front of the screen before removing the masking tape. Which gave me the stencil.

Finally was the taping up of the screen and pulling the ink through. The fabric paper is extremely thin the the metallic paint would seep through to the bed. Which meant wiping it off before the next print.

If you have any questions about the print of the process, drop me an email or leave a comment.

A day learning illustrator.

I wanted to brush up on my Illustrator skills, so I sat myself down and watched a couple of tutorials. I’ve been drawing girls in my sketch book lately so I decided to use one of the sketches. I’m quite pleased with the first bash and the pen tool is no longer my enemy. I’ve got loads of ideas from today’s work and some more girls to get pentooled up.

I’m actually planning on screen printing the girls so this on was more of an experiment. I’ll update with pictures soon.

Toys in the Attic.

It's been a few day's since my last pip. I've been trying to sort things out for Xmas which has been a nightmare to say the least, (bah humbug.) Anyway I hope everyone else is sorted.

I'm hoping to lanch my Etsy shop tonight, if not tomorrow and prints of this will be available. The skeleton on the original is glow in the dark. There was someone asking about this piece but when he found out it was glow in the dark he wen't a bit funny. Apparently he made a glow in the dark werewolf when he was a child which it scared during the night, and ever since he's been afraid of all thing illuminous.

Concept work, swing tags, and a cat's fashion.

I've watched to much Red Dwarf the past two days, well I say watch I mean put on in the back ground and get distracted by unbelievably cool and somewhat graceful Cat. (hmm..)

Anyway I've been working on some swing tag designs and here are the first concepts. I'll be posting more soon with details of the fashion designers work.

First Pip, Welcome to watermelon pips!

I’ve been posting on blogger for two years or so as part of a small collective, under the name bewaretheblackrabbit. All is dandy on that front and I will continue to post, but I feel it’s about time for a personal blog. Some of the things I draw don't feel right on a collective blog and I'd like to be more involved with the online blogging community. I found it harder to converse representing part of a collective, people weren't really sure exactly who thy where talking to.

I'm hoping that with this blog I'll be able to get feedback on my posts and inspiration from others. However It's lonely on your own and with no followers so please follow me, and I'll be sure to follow back.

For my first post I thought I would draw a small comic strip to introduce myself.
